On December the 7th., 2014 in the late afternoon some friends and I went to ” Madrigal de la Vera, Caceres.” When we arrived there were many groups of local people around Many Great Piles of wood here and there all throughout the village streets. At 8 p.m. sharp the main church bell started to strike and all the piles of wood were lighted up as street fires…
Then the Festival started: people dancing around the fires “Jotas Veratas.” There were musical local groups playing old instruments “gaitilla, panderetas, guitar, special cristal bottles…/etc.” At the same time, next to the fire, others were cooking a variety pig meat and giving it out to people around so as to gather strength for a long night Festival. So that the Special night Celebration could go on till next day late in the morning. We went around a few fires, talked to old local people and ate their pig meat products too. However, after a couple of hours it started to get windy and chilly so we all decided to call it a day.
